After fire destroyed the interior and roof of the Opera House building in New Bremen, Ohio, Crown Equipment Corporation chose to renovate the structure and construct an addition. The original building housed business/retail space on the ground floor and an auditorium on the second floor. The new addition for offices was constructed on an adjacent parking lot.

Program for the 3-story addition required flexible open office and enclosed conference/office spaces. The Opera House renovation included open office/conference spaces on the second floor while retaining business/retail on the ground floor. A coffee house and deli occupies half of the Opera House including space in the addition.

The Owner desired an addition different from, but complimentary to, the turn-of-the-century masonry structures of the downtown. This was accomplished by large expanses of glass curtain wall while incorporating building material similar to the surrounding buildings.

The interior of the addition, with exposed structural steel frame, mechanical ductwork and electrical systems, perimeter office walls with glass - allowing views to the exterior and daylighting, contrasts the solid construction of the Opera House.
